5 Reasons I never leave the house without a Hat:
Five reasons that I never leave the house without a hat:
1. Sun Protection: Having grown up in Central Queensland with blue eyes, fair skin and red hair, the climate taught me to simply wake up and wear a hat. The dangers of the Australian sun are well-documented. Indeed 2 in 3 Australians will get skin cancer by the age of 70, and Melanoma accounts for 70% of newly diagnosed cancers. The Cancer Council recommends that we all slip slop slap - slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen and slap on a hat.
2. Keeping the heat in during the colder months. Did you know that approximately 10-15% of heat is apparently lost through our head? As Autumn rolls in, I always have a hat, cap or beret as part of my daily ensemble!
3. Showing my loyalty: We all belong to different teams, schools and communities. Over generations hats have been used to help identify, a career, rank, subculture, musical genre, and historical period. For me, I cannot leave for a walk without my ‘Running for JSK’ hat - showing my support for the John Skipper Kelly Fund.
4. Fashion Stakes: Events and Race days across the country provide great social occasions and the opportunity to dress up and potentially participate in “Fashions on the Fields.” A beautifully made hat or headpiece is a must to complete my outfit!
5. Mum of Many Hats: As the unofficial Mum of Many Hats – Embellish Atelier is the one stop shop for all things millinery in Sydney. I live and breathe everything to do with millinery and hats – so waking up and wearing a hat is absolutely second nature. I am never fully dressed without a hat.
For me, wearing hats is about so many things. I love sharing the art of millinery . So, come along and try on some hats! Or learn to create one in our many Millinery Workshops or online downloadable tutorials!
