COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
4DAYS 4HATS
Intensive workshop
An intensive where you can choose from a number of techniques and Catherine will be here to help you create up to 4 fabulous hats and headpieces. With Catherine’s flexible approach, wealth of knowledge, and range of available blocks, and materials be prepared for an unforgettable learning experience.
Techniques which will be covered will include those created for our Fractured Flower Collection, and Windowpane Sinamay.

MILLINERY HOT SEAT – 3rd March
We have decided to create HOT SEAT opportunities for previous students of Embellish® Atelier to pop in with their millinery conundrums to finish off a project or to use a block to create a special piece.
10.30-3.30 p.m.
$60 per person plus materials plus in house block hire.

THE LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS
Flower Making Workshop
Session 1.French Tooled Silk Flower
Create a silk flower using traditional brass flower tools – $95 includes materials.
Next workshop 17th June 2018 – 10.30 – approx 2.30 pm
Session 2. A bunch of flowers.
Explore a number of different flower making techniques used in millinery. Using silk, organdie, organza, polyesters, and leather in this wonderful workshop inspired by millinery from the 1940’s and 1950’s. It is a boot camp of trim ideas – $95
MILLINERY HIGH TEA
Make a Headpiece or fascinator.
In this wonderful 4 hour session you will be introduced to basic introductory sinamay and traditional stitching techniques During the process you will create your own small headpiece or fascinator .
All materials supplied.
High Tea consisting of a variety of sweet and savoury treats from local delicatessens are served on our pretty vintage teaset collection. This workshop is very popular with corporate groups, hens’ parties, and school groups
$95 per person.

Make your own button beret
Using one of our gorgeous pillbox or mini cocktail shapes in this class use sinamay to create a whimsical sculptural fascinator, headpiece or button beret and learn a variety of delightful sinamay trim ideas. $195 includes materials.Suitable for beginners. Demonstration of veiling, crinoline, and feathers to add to your headpiece also.
BRIDAL AND EVENING WEAR
Cocktail Shapes
It is all about creating the perfect foundation – for a perfect wedding accessory or glamorous evening hair piece.You will learn about the importance of using bias fabrics, and cover techniques of draping, beading, and stiffened lace. You will learning about modern esparterie and leno foundation materials. learn and create a fabric covered headpiece using these traditional foundation materials.Make a bridal fascinator, bridal hair piece as a bridal or wedding accessory.
Learn some lovely fabric manipulation techniques to create unique and adorable pieces.
$325 includes materials.

Working With Felt 2 Day Workshop
Create 1-2 gorgeous felt headpieces . We will teach you to block and to manipulate felt in order to create a mini beret, or cloche hat, or headband in this amazing class. Become familiar with the terrific sculptural properties of felt and discover amazing ways to create a dramatic and unique statement headpieces in time for Autumn Racing.
$345 plus materials.
FOUDATION FUNDAMENTALS
Turbans, Top Hats, Tiaras, and Headbands.
A whimsical and fun day creating either a wire mini tophat or a tiara or bridal twist . This is a traditional technique with a contemporary twist. You will also learn to make a headband from millinery wire. We will demonstrate and introduce to the use of all the foundation materials in this class- Leno, Paper Sparterie, Buckram,
Once you have learned this skill you will also learn how to cover the wire with various millinery materials- such as sinamay, tulle, and starlight braids for different effects.
$495 -plus materials.
This class will be conducted through the Sydney Community College as Millinery – Extension.
LUXURIOUS LEATHER HEADPIECE
We have been using all types of leathers in our hats and headpieces for over 10 years and won a coveted skills award at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in 2009 for a gorgeous piece. Since we have won a number of fashions on the fields awards. Each new creation is eagerly snapped up by discerning clients. Join this class to discover the skills and techniques we have developed to create a beautiful leather headpiece and a leather flower, and leaf or cut leather trim. We use a variety of soft napa leather, as well as fish leathers and skins.
Cost $265 plus materials.
2 DAY WORKSHOP
10 a.m -4.30 p.m
I MADE MY HAT
Choose to create either a felt or parasisal straw hat (or one of each) using time honoured traditional millinery skills. You can also opt to make both a felt and straw in this class and add an extra day. Make a CLOCHE, TRILBY, PICTURE HAT, or FEDORA. This class is jam packed with skills- includes trim ideas using traditional millinery materials including grosgrain, feathers, and crinoline. We also cover how to choose a hat to suit your face shape and body type. Learn skills to co-ordinate your outfits according to the elements and principles of design in relation to millinery.
2 day workshop $495 – includes felt or straw.
Materials included 3.5 day workshop $695- includes a felt and straw hat.
MILLINERY “INTARSIA”
A gorgeous advanced millinery skill involving piecing together contrasting colours of felt to create beautiful designs.
Also learn a traditional techniques for piecing together parasisal straws.
$325
A 2 day workshop of intensive skills.
WINDOW PANE SINAMAY BRIM / BRIM EXTENSION Class
One of our favourite, signature techniques which creates a beautiful, ethereal brim using window pane or crosshatch sinamay.
A full day workshop includes materials – $325.

LAMPSHADE WORKSHOPS
Hats for your lamps
Another traditional skill- over 2 days learn a host of skills to create beautiful fabric covered lampshades.

Embellish atelier offers workshops for you to explore your creative side to make a hat, silk flower, wire headband. We do packages for workshops,demonstrations, and design talks at your corporation, workplace, workplace or school (esp for Design and Technology Classes), High Teas for Bridal Groups( Hens or Kitchen Teas) and are very happy to co-ordinate with your specific timetable, and requirements.We can assist your HSC design student to learn millinery skills for portfolios and garments.

Catherine’s skills as a teacher will guide you towards making your own headpiece for any occasion using the finest materials sourced from Australia and Europe ensuring you are properly turned out for your event. Workshops are designed to enable you to build your millinery skills.
If our times are not suitable for you please contact us – we are known to be accommodating and flexible.We can also arrange classes during the week if required .
All classes above are conducted in our intimate, eclectic, inspiring studio space where you will also witness the practise of the studio.
Light refreshments are provided. During the lunch break we recommend you try some of our renowned, local cafes, and pubs.
